AUTO-TECH
PROGRAM
1.
Do I get any certification for this class?
Yes. You can receive S/P2 safety and pollution certification
valid for one year. You also have the opportunity to take
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification tests. Second
year students who are eighteen have the opportunity to take
the State Inspector’s test for certification.
2. Do I have to take Auto Tech I before Auto Tech
II?
No, these are stand-alone courses, each teaches different
systems on the car.
3.
How long does each course last?
Each course is a year long and equal to three credits.
PRACTICAL
NURSING PROGRAM
1.
How do I apply for the Practical Nursing Program?
High
school juniors make application through their school guidance
counselors. Adults should refer to the application packet,
which is published each November. This is available in the
school office or online.
2.
Are there prerequisites for admission to the program?
High
school juniors must have a minimum 2.0 average and successfully
completed Biology and Algebra I. Chemistry is recommended.
Adult applicants must submit proof of high school graduation
or have a GED. They must also perform satisfactorily on preadmission
tests. The tests measure reading comprehension, basic mathematical
skills and problem-solving abilities.
3.
What is the length of the program?
This
is an 18-month or 4 semester curriculum. During the first
two semesters, students attend class from 9 a.m. until 11:35
a.m. Theory classes, during the third and fourth semesters
are scheduled from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Clinical rotations
are usually scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Classes
are admitted annually, in September. Students graduate in
April.

What is the cost of the program? Tuition,
uniforms, books, and fees average about $5000 for the program.
However, high school seniors do not pay tuition the first
two semesters.
5.
Where will I do clinical rotations? The
school enjoys affiliations with Chesapeake General Hospital,
Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, and two local long-term
care facilities. Students also gain experience in other community
agencies.
6.
What is the employment outlook for the Licensed Practical
Nurse? Over
the next eight years, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
projects that over 120,000 new jobs will be created for the
L.P.N. Career prospects in Virginia and the Hampton Roads

Area employers recruit our graduates for hospital, nursing
home, assisted living, physicians office, and clinic positions.
7.
My career goal is to become a registered nurse. Can this program
assist me to achieve my goal? The
CCST Practical Nursing Program has articulation agreements
with Tidewater Community College, Norfolk State University
and Thomas Nelson Community College. Graduates of the program
receive college credit for nursing courses.
8.
Are scholarships or student loans available?
Scholarship
opportunities are available from a number of agencies for
enrolled students. The school is certified for payment of
Veteran’s benefits. We do not belong to agencies that allow
students to receive government loans or financial assistance.
SPECIAL
EDUCATION
1. Does CCST have a special education teacher?
There is a full time Special Education teacher and full time
Special Education paraprofessional at CCST.
2.
Does CCST serve student with special education needs?
Special needs students make up approximately 20 – 25% of the
population at CCST.
3.
To whom may I address special education concerns?
Special education question relative to CCST may be directed
to the special education teacher. Administrators are also
available to work with you.
