Reading is Fun!

Reading must be a meaningful, enjoyable, useful, and FREQUENT experience for children.

Use the following tips to encourage your child to read:

HAVE YOUR CHILD.....
  • read the directions to a recipe
  • read the signs and labels in the supermarket
  • read a book with you
  • pack a book when you're going someplace where there will be a long wait
  • read a picture book at a bookstore
  • reread favorite books
  • read a book to a younger child
  • skip a television show and read
  • stay up an extra 15 minutes to read
  • keep a book in the car
  • see the movie, then read the book
  • ask a librarian to suggest books
  • SEE that YOU read

All students are required to read books, then take "Accelerated Reader" tests.  Visit the public library with your child and select an A.R. book!
Check out our AR List before you visit the public library.
