| Foundation: This class will be based upon the principles of D.B.A.E. or Disciplined Based Art Education. D.B.A.E. incorporates five different elements: Art History, Planning, Production, Final Product and Art Criticism. During this learning process students will gain an understanding that art is not only the final product but there is also a step-by-step process one must follow to become a successful artist. |
|
Before each lesson students
will be asked to turn in three thumbnail sketches or ideas for their projects.
This is important because it helps students develop critical thinking skills.
This process also helps to reduce the waste of materials.
|
|
The class sizes at Crestwood
have decreased tremendously which allows more hands on training in the
art class. This smaller student/teacher ratio enables the instructor
to focus more on technique and craftmanship.
|
|
The final product is the main
source of grading in art class. Students will be graded on time spent,
craftsmanship, objectives and overall appearance.

Art criticism allows the class to discuss the success of each individual's project. This is not a time to put down other students but a time to give them advice as to what they could do to make their projects better. |
