The sixth grade course prepares students to care for themselves when home alone.  Students identify ways to return home safely, recognize home safety hazards, distinguish between emergency and non-emergency situations and determine procedures for handling each, and discuss safe child care practices.  Students determine benefits of preparing healthy snacks and learn simple clothing repair.

Seventh grade students become aware of heredity and environment and the role  each has upon individual differences. They evaluate qualities of friendship and peer pressure.  Using the food pyramid as a guide, students prepare breakfast and lunch foods demonstrating knowledge of safe and sanitary kitchen practices.  Students construct a simple sewing project.  Through research and the students' own backgrounds, they become aware of the necessity of giving loving and caring attention to young children. 

Eighth grade students determine the importance of family to society and identify advantages and disadvantages of different types of families.  They examine career possibilities, project living expenses, and determine ways to become wise consumers.  Students construct a simple sewing project.  Students relate a basic understanding of nutrition to good health and meal planning and prepare a nutritious simple breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
