DCCE students perform health related physical fitness tests in the fall and spring of each academic year. The tests are designed to assess cardio respiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Test results allow students to evaluate their current fitness level, teach students about the health benefits of being physically active, and allow group data for curriculum development. Each test is scored using standards that are based on the level needed for good health. The Tests Curl Up - Strength and Endurance of the abdominal muscles. These muscles promote good posture and correct pelvic alignment.
Back Saver Sit & Reach - Students learn that maintaining flexibility and range of motion is important through out life.
Trunk Lift - Trunk extensor strength and flexibility is important because of its relationship to back health. Abdominals, hamstrings, and back extensors work together to maintain posture.
90o Push Up - Upper body strength is necessary in every day living and in promoting good posture.
Aerobic Endurance - (P.A.C.E.R.) Progressive Aerobic Cardio Endurance Run) Students learn the skill of pacing and that acceptable levels of aerobic capacity are associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and other health problems.
