It is the intent of the School Board to promote an environment in Chesapeake Public Schools which is free of illegal substances and which promotes and protects the safety and welfare of all students. In accordance with this philosophy, the use, possession, sale, or distribution of alcoholic beverages, marijuana, anabolic steroids, over-the-counter and prescription drugs, or other controlled substances as defined in Chapter 7 of Title 18.2 of the Code of Virginia, drug and paraphernalia, or imitation controlled substances is strictly prohibited on school property or at school-sponsored activities. Students will not bring a controlled substance, imitation controlled substance, or marijuana to school or school sponsored activities. Violation shall result in suspension, recommendation for an expulsion, and possible police action, as per School Board Policy. All cases of substance abuse shall be administered in accordance with the regulations accompanying this policy.
