National PTA Names Hickory High a 2016-2017 National PTSA School of Excellence!

We are excited to announce that Hickory High has been named a National PTSA School of Excellence! As a National PTA School of Excellence, HHS made significant progress to welcome and empower families to support student success and school improvements during the course of the 2015-2016 school year.

There will not be another picture day scheduled at Hickory High School for this school year.

Parking Application Instructions 2016 - 2017

  • Parking decals may be purchased Wednesdays, starting September 14, 2016, in room 117 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.

  • Driving and parking at Hickory High School is a privilege and not a right. Your parking pass may be revoked if you do not follow Chesapeake Public Schools policies and guidelines, Hickory High School Student Guidelines, and/or Hickory High School Parking policies and procedures.

  • The order in which a student's online parking application is completed and submitted will determines the order that their parking space will be assigned.  The date or time of payment will not effect parking decal space assignment.

  • Students must present all of the following to receive a Hickory High School parking decal:

    • Copy of their current Virginia driver’s license

      • An out-of-state driver’s license will only be accepted if you are an active duty military dependent.

    • A copy of the Acknowledgment Statement from the Hickory High School Parking and Procedures packet, signed by the student and their parent/guardian.

    • Copy of insurance card for school record

    • $20 cash, check (payable to Hickory High School), or printed receipt of online payment (

    • Copy of your receipt at the completion of the online application (this is different from the receipt for online payment).

Wells Fargo Cup for 2015-16 Athletics Announced

In Group 5A, Hickory claimed the top spot for the third straight year accumulating 402.5 points... Hickory totaled 60 fall points, 140 winter points and 202.5 spring points.

 “We congratulate all the schools who competed in this year’s VHSL championship events,” said Ken Tilley, VHSL executive director. “We especially congratulate the best of the best and we thank Wells Fargo for supporting this important recognition.”

The Wells Fargo Cup athletic and academic winners will be recognized during VHSL Day at a University of Virginia football game this fall in Charlottesville.

Governor McAuliffe & Board of Education Announce 2016 Virginia Index of Performance Awards

Congratulations to Hickory High for earning the 2016 Board of Education Excellence Award, the second-tier honor in the VIP program. These schools met all state and federal accountability benchmarks, made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement, and expanded educational opportunities set by the board.

VAPTSA Applauds Hickory PTSA's Commitment to School


Chesapeake's Hickory High School PTSA, Southeastern District, stepped up to reopen and manage the school's store, the Hawks Nest! They cleaned out, repainted, organized and set up the entire store in a matter of weeks. A dedicated cadre of volunteers runs and maintains the store, open during all 3 lunch periods and special evening hours, like Open House, Band/orchestra performances and Sports Nights. Up and running since November 18th, the Hawks Nest is operating at a profit and has been enthusiastically received by parents, teachers and students.

PTSA president Elena Trotter states, "To have a daily presence at the high school highlights the many positive aspects of our PTSA and promotes a great partnership between school and family. It has become a source of pride at the Hickory High School."

The Virtual Instruction Program will be continuing and extending the Virtual Virginia Full-Time Online Pilot Program from the 2016-2017 school year.  Enrollment is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Athletic Registration Logo

To participate in athletics at Hickory High School students must:


Have a physical dated May 1, 2015 or after.  This includes open gym, out of season practice and tryouts.  The original or a copy of the physical must be on file in the athletic office before a student participates in these activities.  There are no exceptions to this rule.


Register online in order to participate in athletics.  Online registration will consist of completing all of the necessary paperwork needed to participate in athletics (including forms you will be familiar with from previous years.) Athletes will be able to register beginning July 1, 2015. The web site to register is

Once athletes have registered online and turned in their current physical they will be eligible to participate in athletics.
