At approximately 9:00 a.m.,
4/29/09, a message was sent via the PAS (parent alert system)
pertaining to a public service message prepared by the Director
of the Chesapeake Health department.
The message was as follows:
To date there have been no
confirmed cases of swine flu in Virginia. So now is a perfect
opportunity to encourage healthy habits to help protect you and
your family should cases occur in our area. Frequent hand
washing, with soap and water or hand sanitizer, is most
important. Use the sanitizer wipes at stores to clean the
handles of shopping carts. Stay home from school or work if you
are ill. Use cough etiquette by coughing into your sleeve. Keep
yourself and your family as healthy as possible by eating right,
exercising and getting plenty of sleep. Healthy bodies are
better at fighting infection. If you have flu symptoms call the
doctor's office before you show up for an appointment so they
can put you in a room early and not infect other people.
Updates on the Swine flu are available on the CDC website at
www.cdc.gov, or their hotline at 800-CDC-INFO. The Chesapeake
Health Department hotline number is 757-382-8722. A link to the
CDC website will be added to our CPS webpage in the near future.
Edline is a website
where parents and students can check weekly grades, homework
assignments, and other information that in conjunction with
HickoryHawks.com will keep you informed of all relevant
information to your Hickory High School experience.
