AAA of Tidewater - J. Theron “Tim” Timmons Memorial Scholarship Foundation

This scholarship is available to graduating seniors whose parents/guardians are members of AAA of Tidewater.  Other requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0, two letters of recommendation, and an essay on “How You Plan to Use Your Education.”  The scholarships may be used at any institution of higher learning in Virginia.

 

American Legion Oratorical Contest

Students are invited to compete in this contest by speaking 8-10 minutes on any subject related to the American Constitution.  National top three winners receive $18,000, $16,000 and $14,000 scholarships.

This organization is affiliated with the military and is offering ten $1,500 scholarships to dependents of military families - either active-duty or retired (up to grade Captain/Commander) and dependents of military resale employees (parents work at Military Exchanges or Commissaries).

 

Hampton Roads Community Foundation

This foundation offers numerous scholarship opportunities to seniors.  Unless otherwise noted, applicants for these scholarships should have financial need, be a strong student academically, and be active in school and/or community activities.  Scholarships average nearly $2,700 and are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.

 

 

Jackie Robinson Academic Scholarship

This scholarship is open to minority high school seniors.  Must present evidence of financial need, SAT score of 1000 (math and critical reading) ACT score of 22, must be a U.S. citizen, and must plan to attend an accredited four-year institution in the U.S.

 

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.

This scholarship was developed in honor of Mrs. Scott who perished in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon on Sept. 11.  These scholarships are based primarily on a “need” basis.  Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and must demonstrate leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra-curricular activities. Three - Five $2,500 scholarships are available.

 

Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have lettered in and are active members of a varsity high school soccer team.  In addition, applicants must have played select travel soccer and have been accepted to an accredited college or university.  There is an award of $2000.

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program

To qualify for this scholarship seniors must maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher and plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public, in-state college or university.  Scholarship applications will be available online from December 1st to February 8, 2012.  Recipients could receive up to $5,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, room and board.

 

Lee-Jackson Foundation Essay Contest

This essay contest is open to juniors & seniors with plans for higher education.  Essay topic: “The career, character, or some other aspect of the life of either General Robert E. Lee or General “Stonewall” Jackson, or both.”  One $10,000, eight $2,000, and nine $1,000 scholarships are available.

 

Military Child Education Coalition – 9th GRADE ONLY

Must be a child of a military member on Active Duty or Mobilized Guard or Reserves or the child of a military member who died while serving on Active Duty or Mobilized Guard or Reserve Status.  Hand-written essay is required (topic is listed on application).

 

National Coalition of 100 Black Women

Applicants for this scholarship must be June 2012 graduating seniors, residents of Hampton Roads, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Scholarships up to $1,000 will be awarded.  Each high school may only nominate one student.

 

National Commission for Cooperative Education

Seniors applying for this scholarship must have at least a 3.5 GPA and type a one-page essay describing why he/she has chosen to pursue a college cooperative education program.  Scholarships from this program are only accepted at National Commission Partner Institutions, such as Johnson and Wales.

 

National Naval Officers Association

Scholarship is open to high school seniors who will be pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).  Scholarships range from $10,000 to $2,500.  Essay of 500 words is required.

The awarding of this year’s scholarships will be based in part (50%) upon essays written by those students seeking to win a scholarship and in part (50%) by other factors such as need, grades and extracurricular activities.  One $2,500 and one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

To be eligible for this scholarship the applicant must be a primary member of Virginia Credit Union and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Applicants will be evaluated on four equally weighted categories: scholastic achievement, community service & extracurricular activities, hours devoted to work to help with cost of education, and essay.  Twenty-five $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.

 

Virginia Department of Aviation-John R. Lillard Scholarship Program

DEADLINE:      FEBRUARY 17, 2012

 

Seniors applying for this scholarship must have at least a 3.75 unweighted GPA, must be planning a career in the field of aviation, and must be accepted into an aviation related program at an accredited college.  A $3,000 will be awarded.

 

Virginia Department of Aviation-Willard G. Plentl Scholarship Program

Virginia PTA Scholarship Program

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA who plan to enter a college or university in VA and pursue either a teaching or other youth-serving profession in Virginia. 

 

Virginia Tech Pamplin Scholars Program

The Pamplin Scholars Program consists of two scholarships: the Pamplin Leader Award and the Pamplin Scholar Award.  The Pamplin Leader Award is presented annually to one qualified senior from each public high school in the Commonwealth of VA planning to attend Virginia Tech.  Students should apply for this scholarship even if they are still waiting for an admissions decision from Virginia Tech.  Applicants must have at least a 3.75 GPA and demonstrate leadership & service experience.  Recipients of this $1,000 award are then eligible to win the Pamplin Scholar Award during the spring semester of the freshman year.  The Pamplin Scholar Award is equal to in-state tuition & fees for the freshman through senior years.  All majors are encouraged to apply.

Zonta Club of Hampton Roads – Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship Program
