Cooperative Technical Education (CTE)

The Cooperative Technical Education program provides opportunities to participate in on-the-job training to students who have demonstrated a high proficiency in their technical competencies. The place of employment becomes an extension of the classroom. The Cooperative Technical Education program coordinator works closely with the employer to ensure course competencies are attained.

 

 

 

Cooperative Technical Education Work (658)

Grade Level: 10-12   Credit: 1 Unit   Prerequisite: None

Course Description: Courses using the cooperative education method offer a combination of classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training with continuing supervision throughout the school year. Students must be enrolled in one of the Cooperative Technical Education courses during one term and in Cooperative Technical Education Work for both the fall and spring terms.

Cooperative Technical Education I (659)

Grade Level: 10 or 11   Credit: 1 Unit   Prerequisite: None

Course Description: This course is designed for student career exploration in the areas of trade and Industrial occupations, job-seeking skills, basic economics, and human relations.

 

Cooperative Technical Education II (660)

Grade Level: 11   Credit: 2 Units   Prerequisite: Cooperative Technical Education I (659)

Course Description: This is a work program designed to train students interested in trade, technical, and skilled industrial employment. A wide variety of skilled trades and industrial occupations are available. Students are paid for their work and receive two credits for graduation. In the class, students study materials that directly relate to their chosen occupations and other employment-related materials.

Grade Level: 12   Credit: 2 Units   Prerequisite: Cooperative Technical Education I & II (659 & 660)

Course Description: This course is a continuation of Cooperative Technical Education II

Occupational Exploration Internships (679)

Grade Level: 10 – 12   Credit: 1 Unit   Prerequisite: None

Course Description: Students have the opportunity to explore their career and technical interests by enrolling in this course, which requires students to complete a minimum of ninety hours of paid or non-paid work with an employer whose business is related to their field of career interest.
