Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Southeastern Elementary!

Assistant Principal

We are happy to share these precious moments with your children as they move through the elementary years.  I want to assure you that we do not take our role as your child's educators lightly and we strive to provide high quality education through rigorous academic standards.  We are committed to meeting the needs of all of our students by differentiating instruction and using research based teaching methods that will prepare your children for all their future endeavors.

Last year, we introduced three goals to help with increasing student achievement.  We will continue these goals for the 2010-2011 school year.  The first was a focus on reading.   As we work to improve our reading instruction we ask you to continue to read to or encourage your child to read at least 15 minutes per night.  Have them read magazines, newspapers, as well as books.  Ask them questions about what they are reading.  Remind them that while we are reading we are thinking.  We will continue the reading journey this year!

Secondly, we looked at better utilizing and improving our technology usage.  Our students live in a technological society and we must prepare them for the world in which they will enter.  This year the fourth and fifth grade students will take their Standards of Learning Tests online.  Our students are being asked to critically think and problem solve beyond just paper and pencil, and we want to ensure they are prepared for these tasks.

Thirdly, we wanted to find more ways to be "Green".  Last year, we collected plastic bags and juice boxes to recycle in order to reduce our impact on the Earth.  This year we will continue to find more ways to be "Green" by limiting paper copies as much as possible.

We will continue to strive toward added success with all of these goals.

To my wonderful students here at Southeastern, I challenge you to set goals for yourself and reach for higher expectations.  We pledge the help of the faculty and staff at Southeastern Elementary to help you reach and exceed your goals because we are here for the benefit of all the students we serve.  You are the best and we look forward to a wonderful school year.
