WBMS celebrates Purple-Up! for Military Kids. We acknowledge the sacrifices made by our military children and families. On Friday, April 21st, join us as we show our support for our military children and families by turning WBMS purple!
Summer enrichment classes are designed for our sixth thru eighth grade Chesapeake resident students. There is a choice of three enrichment classes. Enrichment classes are offered during an eight-day session. Registration begins Monday, April 24th and ends Friday, May 19th.
Chesapeake Public Schools is in the process of reapplying for the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant for the 2017-2018 school year. In accordance with the National Center for Safe Routes program, one of the requirements of the grant is to collect general data, related to students who walk or ride bikes to school, via an online Parent Survey. The survey is voluntary and asks for general information.
Kiera Spall did a phenomenal job representing Western Branch Middle at the recent WHRO Spelling Bee. This live, televised bee was the largest ever done by WHRO; 76 champions from local schools participated. Kiera made it to round four and remained in the bee for two hours and fifteen minutes! She beat over 60% of the other champions and handled herself with poise and intelligence. Congratulations, Kiera!
Congratulations to Mr. Dave Goral on being selected as the 2017 Bruin Ambassador at WBM school!
For the first time since 1986, the WBM Boys Basketball team won the city championship on Feb. 2, 2017. This win marks the first time in school history since becoming a middle school (in 1992) that our boy’s team brought home the basketball championship. Way to go to all of our players and Coach Bailey. A special thank you also goes out to all of the parents and WBM students who have supported the team throughout this season. "We are one" in celebrating this historic win!

Our new theme identifies the importance of equal partnership and being stakeholders in educating WBMS students. Throughout the year, there are several opportunities for all of us to be involved with our students academically, as well as at the extra-curricular events. Mr. Kevin Sutton, now a Regional Manager at Starbucks, donated basketballs to our WBM students last Spring on their SOL success! Students' names were randomly drawn from a list of students who had passed the 2016 SOL's.

Congratulations to Ms. Darrow being chosen Teacher of the Year for 2016-17. Ms. Darrow teaches math to sixth graders and has worked at Western Branch Middle for nine years.
Congratulations to Mrs. Therrien who works tirelessly with our students who have reading deficiencies. Mrs. Therrien is a most deserving recipient of this very prestigious award.
WBM Bruins family is thankful and thrilled with the Home Depot donation of pavers and our very own art department for creating paw prints on each of them. These pavers are in the front of the school making a path to our new wrap-around bench. On your next visit to WBM, please check out the new addition to our curb appeal!
The goal of the Virginia Department of Education Excellence in Co-Teaching Initiative is to design a professional development model of co-teaching, provide students with disabilities access to general education curriculum, recognize outstanding co-teaching practices, and provide support of teachers.
Thank you to Mr. Cohn and J.C. Construction and Landscaping for renovating our front lawn. Mr. Cohn and his company donated several hours of service to help us improve WBMS curb appeal. His generosity and time are very much appreciated.

Western Branch Middle will offer after school study hall to all students beginning on October 4, 2016. Study hall will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:35 p.m. until 4:20 p.m. unless otherwise notified of needed changes. Transportation home will be provided.
