Basic Education:
Adult
Basic Education is a program of specialized instruction
provided by the Adult Education Program of the Chesapeake Public
Schools. It is designed to help adults who are functioning
below the ninth grade level in reading, language arts, and math.
There is also instruction for enrichment in social studies,
consumer education, community resources, computer literacy,
science and workplace skills.

are the Goals of the ABE Program?
The Adult Basic Education
Program is designed to help adults

reading, writing, language, and math skills. |

educational skills to enter another educational program. |

self-confidence. |
 |
improve
educational skills to gain employment, maintain employment,
advance in employment, or enter training programs in additional
workplace skills. |

parents become full partners in the education of their children. |

learn
about government and law, community services, parenting skills,
consumer economics, and computer skills. |
How
to Enroll
ABE
classes are free to qualified adults. The
classes operate on an open-enrollment basis.
Interested adults can register and participate in an ABE
class at any time during the school year the program is
being offered. |
