Expectations for Teachers

Back to Teacher Information

Beyond intellectual rigor and high academic standards the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) places strong emphasis on the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship. IBO expectations for ethical behavior arise from the philosophy and values inherent and explicit in the Diploma Program.

The IBO expects teachers in the Diploma Program to
  • Receive appropriate training in their subjects and to be knowledgeable of the curriculum and assessment requirements set out in IB subject guides.
  • Ensure that candidates are informed of current subject content and requirements.
  • Comply with all internal school deadlines identified by the IB coordinator with all required information such as candidates’ sample work, marks for internal assessment and predicted grades.
  • Assess candidates’ work according to IB assessment criteria.
  • Ensure that work submitted by a candidate for assessment is the candidate’s own work.
  • Report any cases of suspected malpractice by candidates to the coordinator.
