October 8, 2012 School Board Meeting UPDATE:

Staff responded to previous questions and presented additional options as seen in the link below.

The School Board took the following two actions:
1) To delay final action related to choosing a SECEP housing option to a future meeting date to be determined.
2) Removed from consideration any option which includes housing the SECEP program at an existing middle school.

The remaining options still under consideration by the School Board are listed below:

- Option 1: Remain at current Deep Creek SECEP facility, make critical repairs
- Option 5: Purchase site in Cavalier Industrial Park, relocate SECEP to that site
- Option 6: Build new SECEP facility
- Option 8: Move SECEP to Educational Services Center building
- Option 8A: Move SECEP to Educational Services Center building (with limited building improvements)

For more information on the options, see the links below. Please note that some options no longer under consideration are still included in the presentation links.

Background:
On June 11th and July 9th, 2012, Chesapeake Public Schools staff presented the School Board 7 options related to the necessary improvements, replacement, or relocation of the current Deep Creek SECEP facility on George Washington Highway. A decision on the SECEP facility is required in a timely manner to allow the school system and SECEP adequate time to implement the option approved by the School Board. The School Board will conduct two public hearings on the options in order to get input from the community. In early fall, the school administration will send letters to the homes of impacted students briefly outlining the 7 options presented to the Board.
