LaEunice Brown, Information Specialist at the Chesapeake Public Schools Parent Resource Center, has received the First Place Award in the Mid-Atlantic Engagement Contest sponsored by Successful Innovations, Inc. School districts were given the opportunity to share their most innovative ideas to support parent involvement and creative ways that they are promoting positive family and school relationships. The contest was recently held in Lynchburg, Virginia. Kudos to Ms. Brown! We are proud of you!

What does Our Parent Resources Center do?

We are:

Serving Chesapeake families whose children are or will be enrolled in Chesapeake Public Schools.
Maintaining a lending library of current educational resources for parents and educators.
Assisting in obtaining information to provide consultations related to educational issues and community services to parents.
Receiving up to date information and training, in order to provide workshops and training sessions for parens, educators, and the community.
Teaching effective communication strategies and promoting a working relationship with parents, educators, and the community.

The library also provides up to date information on workshops and training sessions that are provided for parents by the Parent Resource Center and other community agencies.

Our lending library offers parents and professionals a valuable collection of resources, including books, DVDs, and pamphlets to assist you in better understanding and parenting all children including those with special needs.

The library also includes materials on family interaction, education, and roles and responsibilites in the educational process.

The Parent Resource Center plans workshops throughout the school year for parents and educators. A primary goal of the Parent Resource Center is to encourage active parental involvement and to promote a partnership between parents and educators.
