Congratulations to the 6 Schools for receiving awards from Governor McDonnell and the Board of Education Honor High-Performing Virginia Schools & School Divisions

  • Norfolk Highlands Primary and Hickory Elementary received the Governors Award for Educational Excellence. This is the highest honor under the VIP incentive program. These schools met all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieved Governor McDonnell’s goals for elementary reading as well as other performance measures.


  • Deep Creek Central Elementary, E.W.Chittum, and Southeastern Elementary all earned the Board of Education Excellence Award. This is the VIP’s second highest honor, and these schools met all accountability and benchmarks for two consecutive years and made significant progress towards goals for increase student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by Governor McDonnell and the Board of Education.

  • G.A. Treakle received the Board of Education Competency to Excellence Award. This is the 3rd highest VIP award given to schools that have met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and making progress towards goals set by Governor McDonnell and Board of Education.
