As a component of the school-level Parent and Family Engagement policy, each school shall jointly develop with parents for all children served under this part, a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement.

Conduct a parent/teacher conference in elementary schools, annually (at a minimum), during which the compact shall be discussed as the compact relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Provide frequent reports to parents on their child’s progress.
Provide parents with reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and observation of classroom activities.
Ensuring regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that family members can understand.

Sparrow Road will ensure the responsibility of improved student academic achievement is shared by parents, the entire school staff, and students when addressing the importance of school-parent communication by-

scheduling Parent/Teacher conferences on days identified by Chesapeake Public Schools and as needed
distributing progress reports at least four times a year by the classroom teachers (these are available electronically on ParentVue)
distributing progress reports at least four times a year by the classroom teachers (these are available electronically on ParentVue)
sharing reports regarding student progress will be done through phone calls and/or written communication.

BUILDING CAPACITY FOR PARENTS AND STAFF – REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGAGEMENT

To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, each school and district must:

Assist parents in understanding the challenging State academic standards, how to monitor a child's progress, and work with educators.
- Sparrow Road will release testing data to parents when instructed to do so per the school district
- Teachers will communicate directly with families about student progress via email, text, and/or phone

Provide materials and training to help parents to work with their children, such as literacy training and using technology (including education about the harms of copyright piracy).
- During the Title I annual meeting, families were provided school supplies to take home for their students to work successfully at home
- During PFE events such as STEM Night (Dec. 5, 2023) and Academic Night (Feb. 24, 2024) and parents are provided with make and take items to reinforce what their children are learning in the classroom

Provide professional development to teachers, specialized instructional personnel, and other staff on the value of parents and their communities to increase academic achievement.
- Sparrow Road school leadership has monthly School Success Meetings with grade level chairs to discuss the following:
  - Trainings offered by the district
  - Grade level concerns regarding content, teachers, and testing
  - Upcoming PTA events that helps build relationships with families
  - Ways to effectively communicate with families regarding students’ grades, behavior, and testing
  - Parent Family Engagement
Coordinate and integrate parent engagement programs and activities with other Federal, State, and local programs, including public preschool programs, and conduct other activities, such as parent resource centers, that encourage and support parent engagement.

Sparrow road will coordinate and integrate parent engagement programs/activities using-

Holding an Open House/Title I Annual Meeting where the Title I video is shown and Chesapeake Public Schools Title I pamphlets are given to families
Holding Academic Night that covers content found in the school’s CSIP such as reading, math, and science

Ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents. of participating children in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.

Sparrow Road will ensure school related information is formatted in a practicable manner in an understandable language when communicating with parents. This can be done by utilizing Thrillshare to communicate in a variety of formats including:

Social Media
Weekly Phone Calls
Website Updates

Will utilize Language Line services when needed

The following are allowable activities:

May involve parents in the development of training for teachers, principals, and other educators to improve the effectiveness of such training. (List actions)
May provide necessary literacy training from funds received under this part if the district has exhausted all other reasonably available sources of funding for such training. (List actions)
May pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with local Parent and Family Engagement activities, including transportation and childcare costs, to enable parents to participate in school-related meetings and training sessions. (List actions)
May train parents to enhance the involvement of other parents. During Academic Nights families are able to receive hands-on experience to make a variety of make and take items for content areas (science, math, and reading) to assist with learning at home with their students.
May arrange school meetings at a variety of times, or conduct in-home conferences between teachers or other educators, who work directly with participating children, with parents who are unable to attend such conferences at school, in order to maximize Parent and Family Engagement and participation. Make home visits when appropriate–administrators, social worker, and school counselor reach out to families when needed. Offers to meet with parents virtually to accommodate their needs. Also, utilizes Spanish speaking social worker to assist ELL families. These meetings can include but are not limited to parent conferences, ESTAT meetings, and IEP meetings.
May adopt and implement model approaches to improving Parent and Family Engagement. (List actions)
