Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted

Advocating in the interest of gifted and other high ability students

The core responsibility of the Chesapeake Local Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted is to conduct an annual review of the local plan for the education of gifted students, including revisions, and determines the extent to which the plan was implemented for each school year.
In addition, the Local Gifted Advisory sponsors informational events that may be of interest to the families of gifted students and other high ability learners.

Who is eligible to serve on this committee?

Committee members should be residents of the City of Chesapeake and have an interest in the needs of gifted learners. Gifted services within the district are delivered in the student’s zoned school, so representation from each part of our city is important. In addition to representing the boroughs, the committee should represent the varied interests of students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

How often does this committee meet?

The Chesapeake Local Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted typically meets at least four times during the school year. Our meeting calendar includes a parent orientation for newly identified students every September.
