Q: What time is the Guidance Department open?
A: We are open Monday-Friday 7:40 am – 3:10 pm; our cut-off time for any enrollment during the school year is 2:00 pm. 

Q: How do I enroll my child?
A: Please visit the the enrollment page under guidance or contact the Office of Student Enrollment at osea@cpschools.com for instructions. 

Q: How can I contact teachers or see my child’s grades?
A: ParentVue is a wonderful program that allows parents to view their child’s schedule and access teacher email addresses and grades. If you do not have an account set up or you are having difficulty with an active account, please contact your child’s counselor by email or phone.  ParentVue may be accessed from the Parent tab on our DCMS homepage menu. 

Q: How much does school breakfast and lunch cost?
A: We are happy to announce that Deep Creek Middle will offer meals at no cost (both breakfast and lunch) to all students through a program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP is a federal program that allows eligible schools to offer  breakfast and lunch to all students at no cost. No sign-up or pre-registration is required, so families no longer have to complete free or reduced-price meal applications! Meals are nutritious and delicious, so please encourage your child to eat breakfast and lunch with us.

Q: How can I set up a conference with my child’s teacher?
A: Contact the teacher directly via email or phone. Teachers usually meet with parents together as a team. Guidance does not set up parent/teacher conferences.  Teacher emails are available in the Staff icon on the Menu section of this website and on ParentVue. 

Q: What is the grading policy for Chesapeake Public Schools?
A: The citywide grading policy is as follows:

93-100 = A       77-79= C+

90-92= A-        73-76= C

87-89= B+        70-72= C-

83-86= B          67-69= D+

80-82= B-        64-66= D

Below 64= E 

Q: How is honor roll determined?
A: Honor Roll is determined at the end of each nine weeks. Students in grades six through eight with a 3.0 or greater GPA in all courses with no grade lower than a C receive honor roll status (no C-).

Q: What SOL test will my child have to take at the end of the year?
A: Students must take all applicable end-of-course Standards of Learning (SOL) tests following course instruction. Students who successfully complete a credit bearing course and who achieve a passing score on an end-of-course SOL test or a substitute test for that course shall be awarded a verified credit. End-of-course tests that are available are listed in the following chart. A score of 400 is considered passing/proficient.

Q: Is there an after-school study hall available for my child?
A: Yes, Hornet Hive is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school from 3:30-4:30. Parents may pick up at the end of study hall or bus transportation is provided. A signed permission slip is required for students to be able to stay after school. More information may be found on the Hornet Hive page.
