April is the Month of the Military Child, providing an opportunity to recognize and honor the service of Virginia’s youngest heroes, over 80,000 military-connected children!

“Purple Up! For Military Kids”
We encourage the entire school community – teachers, principals, students, parents, bus drivers, etc. – to wear purple today, April 15, 2026, to show support for our military students and appreciation for their strength and sacrifices.

WHY PURPLE?
Purple represents the blending of the colors of the five branches of our armed forces. Here in Virginia, we are proud to be home to Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, and National Guard and Reserve families.

MILITARY RESOURCES IN CHESAPEAKE
Chesapeake is geographically located near many Naval and other military bases and, as a result, is home to approximately 9,000 military-connected students.
