2024 Administrative Appointments

June 2024

The School Board of Chesapeake Public Schools approved Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton’s recommendation at the June 10, 2024, School Board meeting to appoint the following individuals to new roles within the district starting July 1, 2024.

Mrs. Melissa H. Glod, interim chief financial officer, School Administration Building, to chief financial officer, School Administration Building (see Educator Profile below)

Mr. G. Thomas Coker, Jr., assistant principal, Virginia Beach Public Schools, to assistant director of technology innovation and integration, Educational Services Center

Mrs. Michelle L. Smith, coordinator of transportation, Great Bridge Boulevard Complex, to assistant director of pupil transportation, Great Bridge Boulevard Complex

The following individual served as a first-year administrator during the 2023-2024 school year and will remain at the current location for the 2024-2025 school year. Board action is requested for this administrative appointment.

Mrs. Tara B. Birchfield, special education administrator, Edwards Wilson Center

The following individual was selected to fill an assistant principal 1 position for the 2024-2025 school year.  This appointment does not require Board action.

Mrs. Naiyhani C. Battle, teacher, Deep Creek Elementary, to assistant principal 1, Georgetown Primary

Mrs. Melissa H. Glod, interim chief financial officer.

Mrs. Melissa Glod will be the new Chief Financial Officer.

Mrs. Melissa Glod has been appointed Chief Financial Officer. Mrs. Glod has served as the Interim Chief Financial Officer since March 2024. Previously, Mrs. Glod worked in our Division of Budget & Finance as Director of Budget, a role she started in January 2022.
She is a versatile leader with over twenty years of professional experience in planning and finance. She has served in both the public and private sectors, including City of Virginia Beach as a finance officer and a Fortune 300 corporation as a director. As a mom of three CPS students and a desire to use her experience to support the local community, she is honored to serve Chesapeake Public Schools as Chief Financial Officer.

May 2024

The School Board of Chesapeake Public Schools approved Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton’s recommendation at the May 20, 2024, School Board meeting to appoint the following individuals to new roles within the district starting July 1, 2024.

April 2024

The School Board of Chesapeake Public Schools approved Superintendent Dr. Jared Cotton’s recommendation at the April 15, 2024, School Board meeting to appoint the following individuals to new roles within the district.

Mr. Anthony W. Hinds, from purchasing manager, Suffolk Public Schools, to director of new construction, School Administration Building, effective June 1, 2024. (see Educator Profile below)

Mr. Orion J. Burke, from teacher, Crestwood Middle, to supervisor of music, Center for Teaching and Learning, effective July 1, 2024.

March 2024
