The Code of Virginia, section 22.1.217.3 requires that each high school must publicly identify a faculty member responsible for special education transition planning and coordination on the school's official website.  

This individual would be a faculty member who can assist in the:

• dissemination of designated transition information and resources,

• coordination of designated transition meetings with transition specialists, programs, and activities,

• provision of school-requested transition resources and materials to staff,

• attendance at designated transition meetings and informational sessions; and 

• serve as a building liaison for the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and other transition-related vendors.

The Department of Exceptional Learning has identified that this is a long-standing practice in existence in our district.  Your selected Special Education Department Chairpersons execute this role annually with collaboration and communication with your school's assigned transition specialist. 

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) provides information on its website about educational services and resources to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired, or deaf-blind. Resources provided are excerpted from VDOE’s Sensory Disabilities webpage and from websites for partnering agencies, centers, and college/university programs in Virginia.
