Graphic reads: "ELEMENTARY STUDENT ID BADGES" on a branded blue background with a clip art graphic of an ID badge.

Chesapeake Public Schools is excited to implement a Student ID Badge program for all elementary school students beginning November 14, 2023! Students will use their ID badge to securely purchase meals and check out library books. The ID badges will also be scanned to capture ridership when loading and unloading school buses and to record tardy information.

The ID program was first introduced as a pilot program at Norfolk Highlands Primary during the 2022-2023 school year. During the pilot program, school administrators were able to use the school bus ridership data to improve safety and security in pupil transportation. The ID badge program also increased efficiency during school lunch lines.

Issuing Student IDs

Students will receive their first ID badges at no charge. Students will also be issued a lanyard and badge holder.  Each student will be issued only one badge for security purposes. If your child needs their ID badge replaced, you should contact your school’s office.

 Information on the ID Badge

The ID badges will have the students' name, student number, and a photo*.
*PreK, Kindergarten, and students new to Chesapeake who do not have photos available will have a silhouette graphic in place of their photo.

 ID Badge Use

Students will use their ID badge on the school bus, in the cafeteria, and in the library. If a student forgets their ID badge at home, they will be able to manually enter their ID numbers to purchase lunch or check out books. If a student does not have their ID badge at the bus stop*, they will still be able to board, but drivers will inform the school upon arrival that the student does not have their ID.
*Families, please note - the new student ID badge does not replace the yellow Kindergarten card process required at bus stop drop off.
