The graphic reads: "Winter Growth Assessments" on a blue branded background

Students in grades 3 - 8 will take winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) in reading and math during the January 8 - 19, 2024 testing window. The winter VGA will primarily measure content from the student’s current grade level.  The math VGA will focus on content that is taught during the first semester statewide. These tests may also ask a few questions that are above or below the student’s current grade level, depending on their answers to the on-grade-level questions. There is no passing or failing score for the VGA. The goal of this assessment is to ensure that teachers, parents, and students receive feedback on how well a student has mastered content and to identify areas where a student may need additional support.

As with the fall VGA, you will be able to review your child’s Student Detail by Question (SDBQ) report for each test completed during this cycle through the Virginia Assessment Parent Portal. Parent portal claim codes are in your Synergy ParentVUE documents folder; fall VGA codes are also valid for the winter VGA. If your child enrolled in Chesapeake Public Schools after October 1, 2023, claim codes will be uploaded to the ParentVUE documents folder by January 19, 2024.

If you have any concerns or questions about the Virginia Growth Assessments, visit the VDOE Parent & Caregiver Resources for Virginia Assessments website or contact your child’s school or the Department of Assessment and Accountability.
