Throughout the district, students in grades 3-12 will participate in the Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments.
The district SOL testing window opens Monday, May 11, and closes on Wednesday, June 10. Tests will be administered in reading, math, science, and history. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also be administered the Integrated Reading and Writing Component of the Reading SOL (IRW). Your child’s school will provide a testing schedule with important dates and times.
In-Person Testing Requirement
SOL tests for all students, including Chesapeake Virtual Academy (CVA) students, must be administered in a secure testing environment within a school building.
Personal Communication Devices
In accordance with School
Board Policy 9-20.1, personal communication devices are not permitted during SOL testing. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, and any other smart wearable accessories (such as Meta glasses). We ask that families help students prepare by ensuring these items are powered off and stored away from the testing area to avoid any disruption to the testing process.
High School SOL Testing
High school students who must take an SOL test will be notified by their teacher or counselor. Chesapeake Virtual Academy students will take their assessments in their home (zoned) school.

Scores and the Virginia Assessment Parent Portal
A detailed report of your student’s performance on each test will be posted in the Virginia Assessment Parent Portal. In the Parent Portal, parents will receive the Student Detail by Question Report for each SOL test. Access codes and instructions for the Parent Portal will be posted to your ParentVUE Documents folder by May 8. Please note that spring access codes are different from the codes you have used to view previous test results. If you need assistance accessing ParentVUE or the Pearson Parent Portal, please contact your child’s school. Parent Portal reports post up to 10 days after your student tests. Schools will provide students with their test scores as soon as they become available. IRW performance reports will be uploaded to the ParentVUE documents folder after all test results are released by the VDOE.
The state Parent & Caregiver Resources for Virginia Assessment website provides additional resources for determining your child’s performance, questions to ask your child’s teachers, and support tools to help continue learning at home.
