End of Course SOL TESTING

SOL Testing

Schools will begin Standards of Learning (SOL) testing next week for students in grades 3-12. The testing window opens Monday, May 10, and closes on Wednesday, June 11. Tests will be administered in reading, math, science, and history. Students in grades 5 and 8 will also be administered the Integrated Reading and Writing Component of the Reading SOL (IRW). Your child’s school will provide a testing schedule with important dates and times. SOL tests for all students, including Chesapeake Virtual Academy (CVA) students, must be administered in a secure testing environment within a school building.

High School End-of-Course Tests

High schools will administer Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) tests and culminating assessments in May and June. Not all high school students are expected to complete both. High school students who must take an SOL test will be notified by their teacher or counselor. High schools will follow a unique schedule on May 21 and 28. High school buses will run at their regularly scheduled time to pick up students taking an SOL test that morning. Two and a half hours later, high school routes will run again to bring the remaining students to school for instruction. Regular lunch schedules will occur, and attendance will be taken in the afternoon. All students who ride Special Education buses as well as out-of-attendance-zone STEM Academy, International Baccalaureate, and Science and Medicine Academy students will ride their regularly scheduled morning bus. High school CCSS students will not be impacted by the adjustment. The Chesapeake Career Center (CCC) will serve p.m. session students on the afternoon of May 21, and AM session students on the afternoon of May 28. Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) students will maintain their afternoon GSA schedule on both May 21, and May 28, and will be excused from block 1 and 2 attendance on May 28.

Testing on Student Chromebooks

Cell phones, electronic devices (including smart watches), and other unauthorized materials are not allowed in the testing environment. Your child must bring their Chromebook to school on all testing days. The Chromebook should be in good working order and fully charged each day.

Virginia Assessment Parent Portal

A detailed report of your student’s performance on each test will be posted in the Virginia Assessment Parent Portal. In the Parent Portal, parents will receive the Student Detail by Question Report for each SOL test. Access codes and instructions for the Parent Portal will be posted to your ParentVUE Documents folder by May 9. Please note that spring access codes are different from the codes you have used to view previous test results. If you need assistance accessing ParentVUE or the Pearson Parent Portal, please contact your child’s school. Parent Portal reports post up to 10 days after your student tests. Schools will provide students with their test scores as soon as they become available. IRW performance reports will be uploaded to the ParentVUE documents folder after all test results are released by the VDOE.

The state Parent & Caregiver Resources for Virginia Assessment website provides additional resources for determining your child’s performance, questions to ask your child’s teachers, and support tools to help continue learning at home.
