The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) recently released the accreditation and accountability ratings for all public schools across the Commonwealth. Chesapeake Public Schools is proud to announce that 100% of its schools have earned the designation of Fully Accredited.
The division continues to celebrate student success and achievement on the Standards of Learning (SOL) and Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) tests administered during the 25-26 school year. Finalized pass rates reveal the school division exceeded state performance in all content areas.
Each school receives an Accountability Performance Category rating based on student performance in Mastery (which considers Pass Rates), Readiness, and Growth (for K–8 schools) or Mastery, Readiness, and Graduation (for high schools). Schools are categorized into four performance levels: Distinguished, Meets Expectations, Approaching Expectations, and Needs Intensive Support. These categories are determined by a school's overall performance framework score. Schools federally identified for Targeted Support and Improvement have their performance rating reduced by one category level.
Overall, Chesapeake Public Schools demonstrated significant growth. Twenty-three schools achieved the top rating of Distinguished, up from seven in the previous year. The number of schools designated as Needs Intensive Support decreased significantly from six to one. The total number of schools earning the top two rating categories (Distinguished and Meets Expectations) increased from 34 to 36.
In response to the accreditation and accountability ratings, Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubarker shared, “Chesapeake Public Schools has a strong history of academic excellence. These ratings reflect that success and the dedicated efforts of our staff, administrators, parents and community partners who work closely together to enhance instructional quality and elevate student achievement. I look forward to keeping our focus on delivering high-quality instruction that meets the needs of all learners.”
