Congratulations, Mrs. Ratz!
We are so excited to share this great news!

Mrs. Susan Ratz has been selected as the 2026 Chesapeake Public Schools Teacher of the Year! For six years, Susan “Sue” Ratz has been a steady, compassionate force at B. M. Williams Elementary, serving English Learners in grades K–5 and ensuring every child feels seen, supported, and valued. More than an exceptional educator, Sue is a relentless advocate who removes academic, social, and personal barriers to student success by partnering with families, collaborating closely with colleagues, and helping connect students to essential resources. Her leadership through kindness earned her the Virginia Department of Education’s 2025 Ambassador of Kindness Award, a fitting reflection of the way she leads with heart every single day. Known as a trusted mentor, collaborative teammate, and unwavering ally to both students and staff, Sue exemplifies the very best of our profession and the values we strive to model across Chesapeake Public Schools.
The Chesapeake Educational Foundation presented Sue with a $1,000 gift card, and she will be the district’s nominee for the 2026 Virginia State Teacher of the Year program. Congratulations, Sue!
