✨ The History: An expert in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, David Crosthwait Jr. held 39 U.S. patents and 80 foreign patents related to temperature regulation. He is best known for designing the heating system for the iconic Rockefeller Center in New York City!
🏢 The Impact: David didn’t just fix units; he reinvented them. He created innovative boilers, vacuum pumps, and thermostat controls that made large-scale heating systems more efficient and reliable. His work changed the way we live and work in modern skyscrapers.
🛠️ CTE Spotlight: HVAC technicians are the ultimate problem solvers of comfort and air quality. From residential homes to massive commercial complexes, this trade requires a deep understanding of physics, electricity, and mechanics. David’s genius shows that there is no limit to where this career can take you!




✨ The History: Despite having no formal medical degree, Vivien Thomas became a master surgical technician and a lab researcher at Johns Hopkins. He developed the life-saving surgical techniques used to treat "Blue Baby Syndrome," essentially teaching the world’s top surgeons how to perform heart surgery.
💪 The Impact: For decades, Vivien worked behind the scenes in the lab, designing the tools and procedures that would save countless lives. He eventually became the Director of Surgical Research Laboratories and was awarded an honorary doctorate for his incredible contributions to medicine.
🔬 CTE Spotlight: Medical Lab Tech Medical Lab Technicians are the detectives of healthcare! From analyzing samples to developing new procedures, they provide the critical data needed to save lives. Vivien’s story is a testament to the power of technical mastery and persistence.






📜 The History: In 1879, Mary became the first African American to graduate and work as a professionally trained nurse in the U.S. She completed a grueling 16-month program where only 3 out of 40 students graduated—proving her incredible dedication and skill.
💪 The Impact: Beyond her clinical work, Mary co-founded the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses (NACGN) to fight for the rights and recognition of Black healthcare professionals. She dedicated her life to ensuring that everyone had access to quality care and professional opportunities.
🏥 CTE Spotlight: Nurse Aides are the backbone of patient care. From monitoring vital signs to providing emotional support, they embody the compassion and technical excellence that Mary Eliza Mahoney championed over a century ago.

✨ The History: In 1908, Anna became the first African American woman to graduate from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. She didn't stop there, she went on to become the first female Black pharmacist in her state, running the "James Pharmacy" for decades.
🏥 The Impact: At a time when healthcare was difficult to access for many, Anna provided essential care and expertise to her community. She paved the way for women of color to enter the world of medicine and pharmacology.

Today, for Black History Month, we honor Alvia Scott, Hattie Carpenter, and Flossie Burtos—the trailblazers of the shipyard!
🚢 The History: In 1943, these three women were photographed welding steel onto the SS George Washington Carver. At the Kaiser Shipyards in Richmond, CA, they became symbols of the thousands of Black women who mastered the trade to support the WWII war effort.
🛠️ The Impact: They proved that technical skill knows no gender or race. Their precision and hard work paved the way for future generations in industrial trades.
🔥 CTE Spotlight: Welding From shipbuilding to aerospace, welding is the backbone of modern infrastructure. These women showed us how to "spark" a movement!
