Last week, our second graders welcomed a new learning friend, Loretta, through a cow adoption program for Farm to School Week! 🐮
Students explored where Loretta lives by locating her farm on a Virginia map, connecting to Social Studies SOLs 2.6 and 2.7. Throughout the year, monthly updates will give students opportunities to track her growth through graphing and measurement (Math SOLs 2.11 and 2.8) and explore life cycles, living systems, and basic needs (Science SOLs 2.4 and 2.5). Students will also connect farming to economic resources and producers and consumers (Social Studies SOLs 2.8 and 2.10).

Welcome to the Chesapeake Toy Factory!
Our 2nd grade students stepped into the role of “employees” for a hands-on STEM challenge! Students worked in two departments to design, build, and test a toy that could be pushed or pulled.
As they tested their creations, students identified problems, thought about what needed to be changed, and made improvements to get their toys moving just the way they wanted!
Through this engaging challenge, students investigated how different types of forces can cause an object’s motion to change, bringing their SOL 2.2 learning to life!
Our little engineers were busy designing, testing, problem-solving, and learning!
