Halloween Stem day 1st grade teachers

Our first graders recently took part in an awesome, high-energy learning adventure that was equal parts thrilling and educational! Teachers Ms. Snipp and Ms. Lemm partnered up to create two unique, themed rotations, transforming their classrooms for a morning of rigorous skill review and creative exploration.

🧪 Rotation 1: Fear Factor Math Challenge

Students entered a world of tricky tasks as they participated in "Fear Factor" Math Challenges. The goal was simple: apply those math skills or face the "fear"!

Fear factor challenge in 1st gradeStudents worked through a series of challenging activities designed to test concepts taught during the first nine weeks, including:

  • Skip Counting

  • Filling a Hundreds Chart

  • Place Value

  • Ordering Numbers

  • Addition and Subtraction

The excitement (and maybe a little friendly fear! 😉) was palpable as students focused on applying their skills in a rigorous and fast-paced environment.

👻 Rotation 2: Haunted House STEM & Storytelling

Creativity and science collided as students stepped inside a Haunted House to complete a thrilling STEM activity. Each student became a mad scientist for the morning, creating their very own bubbling Lava Lamp Monster! lava lampAfter completing the hands-on science build, the students then focused on applying their writing concepts. They brought their new monster creations to life by writing imaginative stories about their characters. This activity provided a fun, real-world (or spooky-world!) application of the "Build and Write" lessons they’ve been practicing.

The enthusiasm, collaboration, and fun demonstrated by our teachers and students during this unique learning experience was BUZZ WORTHY! It’s this kind of creative, immersive teaching that truly inspires our Hornets every day.
