The graphic reads: "Virginia Waiver Program for Students with Disabilities" on a blue branded background

Parents and families of students with disabilities who receive special education services through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) may be eligible or have available services for various waiver programs in Virginia. These waiver programs are designed to provide resources that support students and their families. The Virginia Department of Education is encouraging school divisions to share this information with parents and families of students with disabilities.

The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services jointly administers three developmental disabilities waivers with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. There is a waiting list for these waivers where slots are assigned based upon urgency of need.  The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services website has additional information regarding the availability of waivers.

Families interested in applying for a waiver can contact the Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare at 224 Great Bridge Boulevard, Chesapeake, Virginia 23320, and by phone at 757-547-9334.  Interested families can also visit the Virginia Association of Community Services Boards website to locate the CSB in their community.

Families and staff may access the November 2023 webinar presented by Ms. Maureen Hollowell from the Endependence Center, Inc. This presentation was sponsored by the Office of Family and Community Engagement and the Department of Exceptional Learning.
