Snap, spell, and read! 📚✨ Last Friday, our students in Mrs. Lee's First Grade Class used hands-on word-building blocks to practice phonics and spelling skills. By physically connecting letters and sounds, students get a fun, tactile way to strengthen their reading foundation. From CVC words to sight words, they loved building—and showing off—their progress!

Our 4th Grade students had an incredible time visiting the planetarium today! From exploring constellations floating across the sky to learning about our solar system hands-on, the universe came alive.

Here are a few highlights from our trip:Interactive Sky Shows:
-- Students actively engaged with the presenter, asking great questions about the stars and cardinal directions as we mapped out the sky.
-- Immersive Star Tours: Settling into the dome theater to look up at the vast, glowing universe above.
-- Hands-on Science: Holding planet Earth in the palm of our hands—literally!
-- Mythology & Constellations: Tracing iconic figures like Orion across the starry night sky projected over rugged landscapes.

Science is always better when you get to experience it up close. A huge thank you to Old Dominion University staff for making astronomy so bright and inspiring for our young explorers! ✨🪐

Our second grade students used cheese crackers, pretzel sticks, and mini marshmallows to bring place value to life—hundreds, tens, and ones never tasted so good! Learning math concepts is always sweeter with hands-on (and edible!) activities. 📊✨

🌟 We had a truly special learning day in Mrs. Williams 3rd grade classroom as we celebrated White Cane Day! We were honored to welcome our visitors, who taught us powerful lessons about independence, accessibility, and the crucial role of white canes.

Our students had amazing questions, and yes, the guide dog (Wexley!) was an absolute star, resting right on our "CHOOSE KIND" rug. A perfect reminder that kindness and inclusion go hand-in-hand. 🤍🐾

We are grateful to learn how to make our community more welcoming for everyone.

Last week, our students from Ms. A. Robinson's and Mrs. Brunson's classes got their hands dirty during the Mixtures Lab, building their own filtration setups using coffee filters, cups, and craft sticks. From observing how different materials separate to documenting their findings on lab worksheets, it was amazing to see so much curiosity and critical thinking at work! 📝💡
