Indian River Middle Specific Updates
School Supply Lists: Official grade-level supply lists for the 2026–2027 school year will be published soon! Until then, we encourage families to review last year's lists to get a general understanding of the items your student will likely need when we head back to school in September!
New Student & Kindergarten Enrollment
Did you recently relocate to Chesapeake, or did your child recently celebrate their 5th birthday? We strongly encourage you to enroll them now for the 2026–2027 school year! Enrollment is secure, fast, and completed entirely online - visit our district enrollment website to learn more.
Student Health & Immunizations
All rising kindergarten students and new enrollments must have a valid Virginia School Entrance Health Form and completed immunizations on file before stepping foot in class. Check out our district Health Services webpage to learn more.
Mental Health Resources
While school is out of session, your child’s emotional wellness remains our highest priority. CPS provides all families access to no-cost, high-quality professional counseling and telehealth services through Virtual Peace of Mind (VPM). Access these services without financial burdens or insurance restrictions by visiting the district Student Assistance Plan webpage.
Looking Ahead: 2026-2027 School Year
We can't wait to see our students back in our classrooms! The 2026–2027 school year officially kicks off on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. View and print the full 2026-2027 Academic Calendar to plan your family holidays.
Urgent for Rising 7th Graders: Immunization Requirement
Attention Parents of Rising 7th Graders: Virginia law strictly mandates that all students entering the 7th grade must have documented proof of a Tdap booster, Meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine, and the initiation of the HPV vaccine series. Valid medical documentation must be submitted to ParentVUE before the first day of class on September 8. Our district is actively cross-referencing files; if your rising 7th grader is missing records, you will receive direct text and email alerts from our school nurse this summer. Check out our district Health Services webpage to learn more.
Athletics
Chesapeake Public Schools is shifting completely away from paper physical forms—all athletic screening and participation tracking is moving 100% online through Arbiter Sports!
If your student plans on trying out for any school-sponsored sports next year, we encourage you to register on Arbiter as soon as possible. Learn more about Arbiter athlete registration here.
