Yesterday, students and sponsors from all seven of our high schools gathered at Great Bridge High School for the DECA District Leadership Conference to collaborate, share ideas, and plan for the upcoming school year. The students were also joined by our Superintendent, Dr. Brubaker who delivered an inspiring message to motivate our future leaders and entrepreneurs.

Western Branch High School’s Scholastic Bowl Team took the stage last month in the televised Battle of The Brains!
Shout out to team members Kayla Greene, Nathan Lewis, Daijha Riddick, and Reese Zieroth, along with their coach Ronald Jedlowski Jr., for their hard work in preparation for the show. It takes a sharp mind, quick thinking, and dedication to compete in an academic challenge like this.

Last week, Superintendent Dr. Doug Brubaker hosted his first Superintendent’s Community Engagement Council meeting at Greenbrier Country Club. Representatives from Cozen O’Connor Public Strategies provided an update on the Virginia General Assembly and legislative priorities, and Director of College and Career Readiness, Dr. Shonda Windham, shared updates on Career and Technical Education (CTE) and opportunities that prepare students for life after high school.

We couldn’t run our schools without our transportation team. Our bus drivers and assistants do more than get students to and from school safely; they are greeters, wranglers, and the first friendly face many of our kids see every morning.
For Bus Driver Appreciation Day, schools across our district celebrated our amazing team with treats, handmade cards, high-fives, and words of thanks.

Over the past two days, 8th graders from across the city had the opportunity to see and experience the workforce at the annual Worlds of Work (W.O.W) Career Expo at the Chesapeake Conference Center.
Students got hands-on with real tools of the trade while exploring career paths offered right here in Hampton Roads. 🛠️

Congratulations to Greenbrier Primary School! This morning, our Panthers received a check for over $6,000 through JCPenney’s "Round Up at the Register" campaign. 🏬
Additionally, the school nurse received a $500 gift card to purchase much-needed clinic supplies. 🩺
This is the fourth year JCPenney has donated campaign proceeds to our schools. We are so thankful for their continued support! ❤️ #CPSCelebrates

Chesapeake is only the 11th school district in Virginia to earn this achievement. Since our first designation at Indian River High School in 2024, our schools have expanded AED access, established trained Cardiac Emergency Response Teams, and run hands-on drills district-wide. 👏
We would like to thank Shannon Filer from our Office of Health Services, our incredible school nurses, the Project ADAM team, and our local EMS response team for their hard work and dedication to make this happen. ❤️ #CPSCelebrates

In celebration of Virginia Farm to School Week, Triple-R Ranch hosted “Farm Day,” where first grade students participated in a day of learning about the process of getting healthy and homegrown food from farm to school.
Students also took hayrides, picked pumpkins, met farm animals, and learned how crops grow. The day was well organized, informative, and most of all fun! What an excellent way to celebrate Farm to School Week. 🚜🍎🎃
