🎉Last night, our talented Elementary and Middle School students gave it their all in the Battle of the Books finals! 📚✨ This year’s battle featured the incredible works of Kwame Alexander, a prestigious author and Great Bridge High School alum! Kwame also served as the emcee for the tournament! 📖 And now, the results are in! She’s a current member of the Chesapeake Educational Foundation, former Chesapeake School Board member, past PTA president, and a passionate advocate for Title 1 schools and the South Norfolk community. 📚 The 2025 Literacy Jam, hosted by the Chesapeake chapter of the Virginia State Literacy Association, took place on March 25 at the Chesapeake Central Library! This year’s publication featured 15 talented student authors from middle and high schools across the city. 📝 Students were invited to write on the theme "Escape through Literacy: Unlocking Worlds, Igniting Minds" or a topic of their choice, resulting in a diverse collection of styles and genres. 💡 At the event, our young authors were celebrated for their creativity and had the opportunity to share their work aloud.
