Announced at this morning’s State of the Schools address, this honor recognizes individuals who go above and beyond for our employees, our students, and their families. Brenda Johnson embodies that spirit in every way.
Ms. Brenda has dedicated over 50 years to volunteering in the Chesapeake community. She’s a current member of the Chesapeake Educational Foundation, former Chesapeake School Board member, past PTA president, and a passionate advocate for Title 1 schools and the South Norfolk community. She is known throughout Chesapeake for her big personality and even bigger heart. We are proud to call her the Pride of the Peake. 💙

📚 The 2025 Literacy Jam, hosted by the Chesapeake chapter of the Virginia State Literacy Association, took place on March 25 at the Chesapeake Central Library!
This year’s publication featured 15 talented student authors from middle and high schools across the city.
📝 Students were invited to write on the theme "Escape through Literacy: Unlocking Worlds, Igniting Minds" or a topic of their choice, resulting in a diverse collection of styles and genres.
💡 At the event, our young authors were celebrated for their creativity and had the opportunity to share their work aloud. Congratulations to all the student authors! Keep writing, keep imagining, and keep unlocking new worlds through literacy. 📖 #CPSCelebrates
