Last Thursday, we gathered for our district retirement ceremony to celebrate the “Noteworthy Impact” our 2026 retirees have made across Chesapeake Public Schools. 💙✨

Together, we honored 166 dedicated employees whose service, leadership, and compassion have helped shape the lives of students, staff, families, and our entire community. Volleyball Conditioning for girls will begin May 18- June 3 (Mondays and Wednesdays; 4:30-6pm). Those rising 9th graders that will be attending Deep Creek High School next year and are interested in Volleyball should attend and have a physical on file.

The DCHS Lady Hornet softball team won another game against #2 ranked Great Bridge last night by a final of 4-3. Hailey Lack singled with two outs to drive in Hannah Liddell as the Hornets moved to 14-1 this season. Two more big games loom as we go on the road next week to Grassfield and Western Branch.

Congratulations to our AFJROTC Honor Guard Cadets Greyson Waller, Zavion Cooper, Miyah Evans, and Kaleah Mann for placing 2nd at the Virginia State Drill Meet. Cadet Mann also commanded the Unarmed Exhibition team that placed 2nd, and our Armed Exhibition team led by Cadets Mason Burton and Zavion Cooper placed 4th.

Last Friday night the Lady Hornets Softball team won their second game against a number one ranked opponent this season. They defeated a very good Ocean Lakes team by a final score of 6-4. Freshmen Finley Brant and Junior Izzy Shollenbarger both had timely two-run singles in the comeback victory. The team record is now 12-1 and has won eight straight games.

Congratulations to AFJROTC Cadet 1st Lieutenant Brady Ming! Cadet Ming was selected for the Untied States Marine Corps ROTC Scholarship worth $180, 000. He will be attending the Virginia Military Institute and upon graduating will be commissioned as an officer with a starting pay of $80,000/yr and will pursue his dream of becoming a fighter pilot.

Chesapeake Public Schools Asynchronous Remote Learning Day

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Chesapeake Public Schools will operate on an Asynchronous Remote Learning Day due to the Virginia Special Election.

Students will work independently from home. Teachers will be available online for support during the scheduled bell times.

High School Schedule for Grades 9 through 12

Bell 1: 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM

Bell 2: 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM

Bell 3: 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM

Lunch: 11:45 AM to 12:15 PM

Bell 4: 12:15 PM to 1:00 PM

1:1 Support: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Important Reminders for Students

Assignments: All work will be posted in Canvas by 8:30 AM.

Teacher Support: Google Meet links will be open during each bell.

Attendance: Attendance is recorded through the submission of work.

Tuesday, April 21 is an A-Day.

Students are encouraged to check Canvas, stay on task, and ask for help if needed.

The DCHS Choral Department has been busy!

31 DCHS Choral folks assisted with the Shamrock-n-Run in Virginia Beach this year. Students assisted with Dry Bags. DCHS Chamber singers also performed the National Anthem that morning for the kick-off of the race.

The Chamber Singers and the Varsity Singers received Superior ratings for their on-stage performances and sight-reading at the District Assessment.

Over Spring Break, members of the choir joined forces with Virginia Wesleyan Softball where they performed the National Anthem at the Strike Out Cancer event.

In addition, 5 students earned their way into the All-Virginia Chorus event that will be held later this week. Those students are:
