🎙️ Hall Pass to History: Indian River High School
Last week was Virginia Principals Appreciation Week, and we’re celebrating the leadership that helps schools “RISE.” In this episode, IRHS junior Adrian Langaster sets the stage for a conversation with Principal Naomi Dunbar and former Principal James L. Frye on what makes IRHS feel like family and how they “RISE” together. From murals and modernization to pep rallies, mentorship, and moments of care that define a community, this story shows how culture is built day by day, person by person.

We hope you are enjoying your day off! We can't wait to see everyone back tomorrow.
Why does every day count? Attendance plays a huge role in our school's accreditation success! 🌟 Plus, when Braves stay home, they miss out on the best parts of the day—like hands-on science experiments and special moments with their "Class Family." 🧩📚
Let's beat the post-holiday slump and keep our momentum going! Our day of learning kicks off at 7:35 AM. Let's fill every seat and have a great week!
Braves are who we are, RISE is what we do! 🪶💙

We are still smiling about how we ended last week in Ms. Roselle’s room. Our Braves were hard at work mastering financial literacy with partner task cards—counting coins and making change is a skill we can bank on! 🧠💰
But we also made time for some serious fun. 🎶 For Flashback Friday, the class rated older songs and sang their hearts out. The top pick? A very passionate performance of Viva La Vida by Coldplay! 🎤🎻
Hard work + Happy hearts = The Brave Way. Let’s make this week just as great!
Mrs. Foard admits she was totally overwhelmed by the Principal Parade on Wednesday—she definitely shed a few happy tears up on that float! 🚜💙 But don't let the emotion fool you... she is already plotting how to "reward" Mrs. Battle and Mrs. Gurkin when their turn comes around. 📝👀
The bar has been set high! 📈

Get ready to crack codes, solve puzzles, and complete top-secret math missions at stations all around the school. It’s going to be an evening of strategy, fun, and family teamwork. Can your squad complete every mission?

We kicked off our PBIS Relaunch with a massive celebration, and our school family definitely knows how to RISE to the occasion! ✨ From "professional" air guitar solos 🎸 to mastering the flamingo pose 🦩, the spin-the-wheel challenges kept us all laughing and cheering. And if you know, you know... six seveeeeen! 🤫👋
A HUGE shoutout to our brave staff members who went above and beyond (and maybe got a little warm 🥵) to make this day special. Thank you to Ms. Bohne, Ms. Sawyer, and Ms. May for joining the admin team, and to Mrs. Chrisman for suiting up in those "not-so-cool" inflatables! 🦖💨 And to our teachers shaking those pom poms—thank you for bringing the spirit! 🎉🙌
It was a beautiful reminder of our mission: Braves is who we are, RISE is what we do. 💪

Check out this project from right before winter break! Mrs. Whitten’s first graders used their knowledge of physical properties to transform recyclables into sea-worthy vessels for the Recycle Regatta. ♻️⛵️
Testing buoyancy and exploring materials is exactly how our Braves show Engagement. "Braves is who we are, RISE is what we do!" 💙💪

Our Braves showed up and showed out today! Students who were at school participated in our grade-level AttenDANCE to celebrate being present and ready to learn. What a fun way to kick off 2026! 💃🕺
Check out this adorable selfie Ms. Baynor snapped with Ms. Brearley and Ms. Jackson-Heard’s classes! 📸 We also have to give a shoutout to Aiden Hart for taking Kris Kross seriously—he was getting major air when he JUMP-JUMPED! 👟✈️
A huge thank you to our wonderful resource teachers for making this day such a success!

They sharpened their skills by collecting real-world data and then brought it to life! Students created tally charts, bar graphs, and colorful pictographs to analyze their findings. What a fun, engaging way to master critical math and analysis skills! ✨

Our First Graders put their engineering caps on, diligently building and testing their innovative boats for the Recycle Regatta. 🚢♻️ They're learning all about design, buoyancy, and reusing materials! At the next station, our Third Graders transformed into expert scientists, investigating the fascinating effect of water temperature on dissolving solutions. 🌡️⚗️
What an inspiring week of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and real-world problem-solving! ✨
