Ms. Whatley’s Spanish 5 class learned about “Año Viejo,” which translates to “Old Year.” This is where people in Honduras create dolls or figures out of paper or cloth and light them on fire to burn away all the negative energy associated with the year that is about to end. Students in Mrs. Graves and Ms. Bowden's English classes attended a live virtual event with two YA authors, Kwame Alexander (graduate of GBHS) and Jason Reynolds. The classes finished reading Reynolds' novel Long Way Down, and engaged in discussion with the authors! #passion

This past weekend the Marching Hawks traveled to Rutgers University in New Jersey to perform at the Bands of America New Jersey Regional. In the Prelims competition, the Marching Hawks earned first place in Class "AA" (Double A) winning most outstanding music, visual and general effects. In the Regional Finals, the Hawks earned the silver medal placing 2nd overall. This is the Marching Hawks highest placement ever at a Band of America event. There were competing bands from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina.
