We had an amazing day at our 4th Annual Teen Summit this past Saturday at Indian River High School! 🙌 We were honored to hear from former James Madison University All-Conference Running Back Dr. Eugene Holloman, who inspired students with a powerful message about perseverance and purpose. From mental health and money management to athletics, college prep, and stress management, our teens gained tools for success now and in the future. Thank you to our Department of Family & Community Engagement for organizing the event, and to our presenters, volunteers, and community members who made it such a success!

✨💡 Math Class Just Got “Glowing”! 💡✨

Mrs. Ehret’s 6th-grade math students lit up the classroom with a “Glow” lesson this week! Using glow-in-the-dark activities, students explored math concepts in a fun, hands-on way that made learning interactive and exciting. 🖤✨📐

It’s amazing to see our students engaged, thinking critically, and having fun while mastering important skills. Who knew math could glow this bright? 🌟

Dream Hawks, Thunder Hawks, and Sea Hawks participated in a meaningful and delicious Jewish Food Day this week! 🇮🇱✨

Students had the opportunity to try traditional Jewish foods including challah (a braided bread often enjoyed on Shabbat), babka (a sweet, swirled cake), and apples and honey (a symbol of a sweet new year during Rosh Hashanah), along with other delicious kosher treats.

As students are currently reading Night by Elie Wiesel, this experience helped deepen their understanding of Jewish culture, traditions, and identity. Food is more than nourishment — it carries history, faith, family traditions, and resilience. By learning about cultural traditions alongside literature, students build empathy, global awareness, and a stronger understanding of the world!

We are proud of our Hawks for engaging thoughtfully, asking meaningful questions, and showing respect as they expand their knowledge of diverse cultures.

Learning extends beyond the classroom — and this week was a powerful reminder that understanding others begins with experiencing and honoring their traditions. 💙

🧸💙 Making a Difference, One Teddy Bear at a Time 💙🧸

We are incredibly proud of our students, staff, and families for their generous Teddy Bear Donations to support patients at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) sponsored by our SCA!

Because of your kindness, children receiving care will have a soft, comforting friend by their side during their hospital stay. These small acts of generosity bring big smiles and remind patients and their families that our community is thinking of them.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped spread comfort, compassion, and care beyond our school walls. 💕

Pages and Projects HMS Enrichment Series
In January, our National Junior Honor Society members turned service into action by donating fleece and creating approximately 20 handmade blankets for the children at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD).

Each blanket was made with care, compassion, and a desire to bring comfort to young patients during their hospital stay. We are so proud of our NJHS students for living out the pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

🚗 Physical Science in Motion! In our Dream Hawks Physical Science classes, students are diving into our Motion Unit with a hands-on Hot Wheels lab!

Students used Hot Wheels cars and constructed test tracks to investigate motion. They carefully measured distance and time, calculated speed, and then created distance–time graphs to analyze motion over time. To take it a step further, they developed speed–time graphs to explore acceleration and see how speed changes are represented visually.

This activity helped students connect real-world motion to key physics concepts like constant speed, changing velocity, and acceleration — all while strengthening their data collection and graphing skills.

Learning is always more powerful when students can see science in action! 💨📊
