Hickory's Administration, School Counselors, and educators welcome rising Hawks (current 8th graders) and current Hawks to attend informational sessions and electives fair at Hickory High School. Hawks interested in taking Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment (college credit) courses should attend to learn about the expectations and rigor. The Department of Exceptional Learning would love to meet any future Hawks with special needs. Rising or current Hawks with questions about scheduling and how to plan for the future will want to attend the session about scheduling. All of our elective options will be on display throughout the common areas of Hickory High School. 🧪🧬️7th grade students participated in a Strawberry DNA extraction lab!🍓 👩‍🔬 All living things contain DNA, which is the genetic material that has the instructions for making more cells. When many DNA strands come together, they get tangled, which makes the liquid slimy. When you put the strawberry (part of a living thing) into a soapy liquid, the soap breaks down the cell walls of the strawberry and releases the strawberry DNA into the liquid. The DNA molecule inside each of your human cells is about 6 feet (or 2 meters) long!🧬️

🐝Congratulations to all our students that competed in the Spelling Bee.🐝 We are excited to introduce the HMS Champion, Aiden Thomas!🏆 Aiden will now compete in the upcoming regional competition. 🥈Kaitlyn Yang challenged Aiden to the end and finished in 2nd place with 🥉 Tommy Noriega finishing 3rd. Dr. Pinello and Mrs. Mayfield were excited to celebrate the spelling knowledge of all our Hawks.
